![]() Jim and Sarah were married for 57 years until her death in 2008. He enjoyed playing golf, achieving a seven-handicap following his retirement, and volunteering at Baptist Hospital and Andrews Institute. Ann Parish where he regularly served as a greeter to welcome parishioners to Sunday Mass. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and later joined St. His faith was a vital part of Jim’s life. Jim was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity at Auburn. Jim also served in the US Army Reserves, retiring as a full Colonel in 1988. Soon thereafter, Jim began his career as an electronic engineer, where he worked as a civilian employee for the United States Defense Department designing radar and electronic defense systems until he retired in 1987. Jim then entered the US Army completing his three-year enlistment and receiving an honorable discharge in 1954 as a Second Lieutenant. The couple were married in 1951 after Jim graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. After graduating from Murphy High School in Mobile in 1947, Jim attended Auburn University, where he met a beautiful co-ed named Sarah McKee. Jim moved from Lay Dam to Mobile with his family in 1940. Jim was born December 8, 1928, at Lay Dam, AL, to the late James William Murphy and the late Rita Arant Murphy.
